Oh, no disagreements there. I just didn't like the cliche stuff added. Like YET another "Super Legendary Sword", that one supposedly used by Genos. (And the total removal of the Flame Sword, by the Battle Sword.) And the bracelets. In terms of gameplay they are sweet, but there was no need to "pump" them up too much, story-wise, which they did, making it even more cliche. And the removal of the rings. And the existence of YET another "omfg material", the Raval. (Best armor and shield in the game are made of Raval.) I think there was too much unnecessary drama, too. (Chester stabbing Dogi, and Chester going all crazy.) Though that wasn't too bad. It just that the game felt a little "emo-ish" at times. To me. Also, I wasn't too satisfied with the addition of the two romun kids. Or all the new townspeople. Also why unify the stores from Ys III? The guy who used to sell weapons and the woman who used to sell the items aren't the same ones from YsOiF either, if I'm not mistaken. Why change that? It's not like they didn't have any background story. (I think the Weapon Seller was a childhood friend of Dogi, for example. It was written in one or more Ys III manuals.) Also, many "new" items not present in Ys III were just rip-offs of Ys VI items. Like that one to iluminate dark rooms and "to show the true form of things". <_< And YET another Stone Shoes? Accessory that avoids lava damage? Where's the creativity? Ys VI had lots of criativity... And DULARN! Just... WTF?! <_< They made him a her. And became a disguised noun. >_> As you can see, nitpicks. But MANY of them. Making it overall something big. Some stuff they did were nice, like making Genos a Winged One. but that's it. Mind you, I liked YsOiF a lot. But I think Falcom changed too much stuff that wasn't necessary. =/

Thanks Red, I've been spoiled xD
Nevertheless, it sounds good to me still. I like a bit of melodrama to spice it up a bit of melodrama to spice it up a bit.

Argh, I was afraid you would. Sorry. I was hoping to myself you had already played most of the game. I'm not sure if that would make you feel any better, but back when I played YsOiF I had also been previously spoiled. Not to mention Ys IV DoY, which I have not even finished yet! And yet, I know the ending. Unwillingly.

Well, I'm certainly enjoying the melodrama, even though I'm only up to the Lava Zone.
Dang, I need some inspiration for this! Soda? It'd probably help xD

Yeah, some of the additions really did, though some changed nothing. xD I mean, why did they cut off Dularn's balls? lol xD Adol just might be next. ' By Dogi.

I liked all the changes, didn't think anything was out of place and they really fleshed out the story much more. The bracelets were much better than the rings - in the original I only used the strenght ring, and only in boss fights - and although there were recicled items from Ys VI, it all was made much better in OiF, in my opinion. Also, I don't remember anywhere in the game that told you Genos was a winged one.
And Smithee, you still haven't said if you've gotten the suplemental files. They're great, with them we finally have a completed patch, something I don't think the patch's author will ever make available.

Suplemental files?
Wait, now I'm really confused about this translation thing.
Can you PM me everything I need and the instructions? If it isn't too much to ask of course!

I also think the Bracelets were a lot better than the Rings, as far as the gameplay goes. But the rings were not relevant to the game's plot, unlike the Bracelets, specially in a cliche way, also unlike the Bracelets. =/ That's what I mean. (Also, they could still have kept the Rings: having both would be even more awesome.)
Also, I don't think the Ys VI items were better in YsF than in Ys VI: the illuminating stone was a lot more useful in Ys VI than YsF: in both games, they illuminate dark places. Well, in YsF, it's also helpful to get past the falling floors room from Valestein Castle, but it wasn't too much required for that. But in Ys VI, it was almost totally required to use it to get the Black Tabulas. Not only that, but it's also really helpful when going to face Majunun (there's another invisible platform whose position is quite tricky). And aside that, it also made the Adol-Shadow monsters in Ys VI become weaker monsters.
The accessories were pretty much useless in YsF: once used to go past a part, you would likely never use them ever again. In Ys VI, however, not only were there many times more accessories, they also were many times more useful. That's also why you could end up wearing 5 of them at once, instead of only one. (And even armor and shields could do something else other than raising defense, making some of them also work like accessories.)
Again, I like YsF a lot. But I didn't appreciate the unnecessary plot changes. Also, that's only me. xD

Ooh! That, I can get it! Sweet, thanks. I just kept the thread with the translation opened the entire time in case I reached that point. Thisi s a MUCH better solution Got it! Sorry about that Ranzor, I had simply missed your suggesting it to me before. Thanks

Those files are great! Everyone should know about them!
And Red, I see what you mean, but I still like OiF better than Ys VI.

And it also gives you back the original title screen (nothing against the author there, I just think it looks much better this way)!

Wel,, no problem with that. xD YsOiF also has its shares of awesomeness. Very action-packed! With excelent Ys III remixes, too. And INFERNO. I love it. I wish EVERY Ys game had "Inferno" difficulty. =/ I wish Falcom released a patch to add that to Ys ORIGIN, at least...

Inferno = worse than Nightmare?

Only if "worse" as in "harder".

Yeah, I personally like them. It is just SO exciting to get an item, because you know you're going to solve a fun puzzle! Also, there is limited items in the inventory compared to other games, so it feels like every item is worth the space!

Rather than make a new topic, I think I'll just post here.
I had heard of Ys, but when I looked into it the series seemed to be all over the place, moreso than many other series, due to falcom licensing out pieces of it here and there I suppose. At the time I decided to just pass and come back later and look into it. Recently I came across Falcom Japan, and saw Legend of Heroes, and further noticed Ys again.
At first I thought Falcom had just ported this Ys, but found out that they were the original company. Out of curiosity, I bought Gurumin for PC from a friend for cheap, to try out the company, and have really been pleased.
So now begins the task of hunting down the 'optimal' version(s) of each Ys.
From what I can tell, it isn't always cut and dry in regards to which version has more juice, so it is tougher to decide instead of, for example final mix/international editions that Square-enix releases.
For Ys 1+2, I think I should get complete, as it seems chronicles is just a direct port?
For Ys 3, it seems I should hunt down the SNES version as well as get the PC version? I think it was only released in Japan, so will need to check used game bins.
Ys4, PCE and SNES versions due to the stories both being worth playing?
Ys5 Expert, for SNES(?), because the PS2 version is mediocre?
Ys6 is PC only, so no issue there, and Ys SEVEN I will probably have to wait until a PC version comes or I buy it with a PSP 2000 or 3000, as the GO seems to be a NO for me.
The only stipulation or issue I might have with any suggestions is that the game has to be in either Japanese, English, or one of the major European languages, or else I won't be able to understand what is going on without a translation patch. lol
I also might consider looking into Zwei series and Xanadu series more, but this topic is about Ys, so I will save those for another time.

To all your Ys questions: Yes. Except for Ys VI: it's also available on PSP and PS2.
