I've been lost in the water temple for the past... what, almost an hour of game time?

Ummm... XD I may have been vague. He ran off as in it was the second time they showed him without any kind of interaction with Adol/Dogi/Bow Chick. I've only just finished the Fire Temple. But yeah, the map says I want to be in Altago's little port city. The little girl collapsed again and now she's in bed. Soldiers are blocking that once-rocky area to the west, and the regal castle/mansion place in town. I'll totally check out that summary to catch up on what I'm missing here.

Yep! And the fact that we CAN all play differently is what sets this apart from previous Ys games. (: I still wish I could play with everyone. TT! I'd so be the support/ranged fighter covering everyone's back! :DDD So I'm all proud of myself... I beat that optional boss in the desert. Not the one near the Fire Temple, but the other one - the high-level one. :D!!! Congrats! I tried doing that but I was dumb and got hit once for over 1000 HP of damage (which was an insta-kill at the time) so I bailed. XD I should have stuck around and tried again but oh wells. :3 I think the hardest for me was the sandworm-like one by the Fire Temple but I did things in order so I went after that one after the dino monster. I've been lost in the water temple for the past... what, almost an hour of game time? You are my twin! XD I spent FAR TOO MUCH TIME in that place due to my horrible sense of direction. Oddly enough, that was the ONLY dungeon that did that to me. o_O;

Ahhh! I usually check that place out almost every time I go to town, I'll have to try that again, thanks. // Wow... I think I got to that scene Wyrd was talking about in the other topic... pretty powerful stuff, after the water shrine/area/thing/place. Yet very cliched. XD They pulled it off well, even without me being able to understand the dialogue.

You guys have given such great thorough impressions of the game it now makes me REALLY want the game and cant wait to play it in English....oh wait, it still hasn't been picked up I guess I can always get the Japanese import. It's nice to know there is always help on the boards if anyone needs it...

Man, these monsters are kicking my butt! I take it I can go to ANY of those three flagged locations on my map? Heh, the first one lead me to a cave with gigantic crab monsters and they wiped the floor with me!

Restarted the game under Hard mode because there were some things I wanted to check about the early quests. (But then realized that I actually have a save right at the start of the game on the other PSP. >_>;;;)
The early boss fights are MUCH more interesting on this difficulty since they actually guard or avoid your attacks. D:!
It really isn't a mode for me though since I'm so horrible at evading (and I don't even try to guard in fear of getting a crit hit from the enemy). XD

I beat it today.
It's pretty awesome and definitely a worthy follow-up to the Ys VI "trilogy."
However, I DO think it's a bit overlong and really bloated and unfocused in the second half. It's an under 30 hour game with the number of characters, weapons/armors and skills for a 60 hour game. I basically felt it got really sloppy in regards to keeping up and balancing out your party when new items are opened up for all seven every hour. Basically, I think they could have cut maybe two characters (especially since half of the cast are functionally very similar to the other half) and a number of equipment and skills to have given it that ultra tight and balanced feeling the past games have had, even at its doubled/tripled length.

Under 30 hours? I'm 45 hours in, and only just beginning the gauntlet of dungeons in the game's second half. (: That's cuz you grind like me! I think I cleared it in 49 hours. :D Leroy: Wait -- why trilogy? Ys SEVEN is a sequel to Ys VI. Do you mean to tie in Origin as well? Oh yeah, I actually did the escort bit today. I deliberately kept letting the person get hit to see if said person could be killed. I'm sad to say that person can heal!! And it's not even idle healing either!

I'm a completionist, grinder and many other things, and because of that, I had + - 40 hours just right after I got Aisha. BEAT THAT. xDDD

I think he means Ys VI, YsF, and YsO as a trilogy.

I think he means Ys VI, YsF, and YsO as a trilogy. But Origin is a prequel. It doesn't fit! It ties in more with Ys I & II overall.

I think he meant trilogy as in they all have the same engine.

Yeah, gameplay trilogy rather than story trilogy. Maybe "triumvirate" would've been the better word to use. ;) Or threesome. XD

Indeed, that's why I didn't think much of it when it happened because I know that there was probably some sort of build up that I was missing since I wasn't even attempting to read the dialogue like I usually do with Japanese games. :P
Afterall, they slowed down the game! (I'm SO happy about the fastforward option in this game! XD)
All I wanted to do was get back onto the field and FIGHT! XD No care about character development or story!
Gimme enemies! Me dash! Me roll! ME FIGHT!!!!!!! GRAR!!!!

Oh, don't worry, I'm still playing it. I'm just taking it very slowly, since I've been stuck in the water temple for the past... oh, I dunno, hour and a half?
So ronery. ;-;

Heck, they even throw around the term "kotowari" Falcom loves that word actually, lol. It crops up a whole lot in Sora no Kiseki too, especially around Zin. Shame on you for being way overlevelled for the best boss in the game, it's not as fun that way

(Highlight for spoilers) Simply put... I kind of agree with the complaints others have raised, and kind of disagree with them as well. There definitely isn't a lot of foreshadowing as to the motives behind Tia and Scias' actions... but then, there's not SUPPOSED to be, either. The idea is, they had this whole thing planned out so well that NO ONE should have caught on, and the fact that they actually succeeded at catching everyone by surprise is a testament to how good a job they did at their deception. Add to that the stuff Fatima points out in the conference room (where she essentially explains how their story fits, unlikely as it may sound), and the fact that the CHARACTERS are just as shocked as the player about the whole thing, and it's actually a pretty effective scene.
Ultimately, I think Tia's motives are explained a lot better than Scias', though, at this point. In fact, I kinda think Tia's sudden vilification is explained REALLY WELL, and is actually quite intriguing (it's almost like the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni villain reveal, where it seems totally random at first, but then makes more sense the more you think about it)... but how exactly Scias fits into everything still seems a bit iffy to me. The game heavily implies that we'll learn more about that soon, though, so I assume some manner of much-needed explanation will be forthcoming. Well, I've been going to Korean and Japanese boards and asking people to translate certain portions of the game here and there so I can understand the story better, but I still maintain my dislike of villains. I just find it hard to sympathize with them since all their motive is that since Altago no longer worships dragon gods and holds its old tradition, it needs to be reborn. Even though the people of the sea ended up murdering many members of the moon tribe and breaking out, Altago is hardly at the state of destruction and it's ironically Tia and Scias' manipulation that made the situation in Altago even worse (the duke Kymarl who remained cautious about the prime mininster's aggressive pursuit of development got sick due to epidemic and later Scias just killed him, allowing the prime minister to do whatever he pleases). It just feels so shallow and it feels like they didn't try to do something constructive before resorting to such a drastic option (i.e. instead of just selling flowers at the streets, try to change the government for the better or bring back old traditions). At least other villains in the series were just evil and were doing it for their own ends. I also disagree with you regarding your comparison to villains in the "When people die" series. In that series, the villains are given more development after the reveal and later on the stories go in-depth to explain how things before the reveal of villians are connected to the villains so the audience can understand them and the plot as whole. Plus, villains from this series suffer from serious issues, which can lead to some sympathy, but it's more or less agreed by all that what villains are doing is clearly wrong and that they are complete monsters. Ys Seven's villains receive no such in-depth explanation for their motives and I find it really hard to sympathize with them, as I said before.

Only five dragons? I thought there were, you know... six, according to Ys I? I just beat my first dragon, and 3 optional bosses -- the one in the 'plains' area and the two in the 'desert' area. The enemy weaknesses/etc. in this game really annoy me, mostly because this ISN'T Crystalis. I dumped Fairy Boy, so I'm using the Staff Chick, Geis, and Adol now. I'm having a lot of fun with Staff Chick too. By the way, is Dogi's equivalent supposed to be comical or something? Wielding abnormally large weapons like he does? It's almost cartoon-y, which doesn't really fit in with everyone else. He's like Street Fighters' "Dan" in this game, or something.

I do believe you mean Geis Elk, and Mishera. ^^;;;;;;;;;;;;;; But seriously, the homunculi follow Geis around which SHOULD make HIM the Fairy Boy. ^^; I do wish that Mustafa had that skill that ups everyone's Power (I think it was. Can't remember.) It has a goofy sound and plump stars!!!! XD
