So, my dad basically told me I'm getting a PSP or bust with the money he'll give me (someday...), so now I'm stuck with it.
I figure I'll modify it.
Should I get a PSP-1000 or 2000? I know that 1000 is much easier to mod, but I like the way the 2000 feels. So, my question is: With 2000 I need to use Pandora's Battery, but can I use my old 1000's battery for that?
That's all the info I'll need for now, I'll ask more later when I get the thing.

I can almost guarantee you that you'll get a TA-088v3 if you get a PSP2000, so you don't need a Pandora battery. In fact, you can't use a Pandora battery.

Oh? PSP 2000 doesn't require a Pandora Battery! Yippee!
So will I not need to buy anything beyond the PSP?

What hj says; If you aren't getting an used PSP-2000 model, chances are it will come with "The Devil's Motherboard" as it's popularly known as here in Brazil. Same for all PSP-3000 models. And Pandora Batteries are useless on those. I'm not sure how to mod it since I have an old PSP-2000, but I have a friend who got the newest model, so I'm sure he knows something. What I know is that any PSP is quite mod-able. By the way, if you can choose between a new PSP-2000 or any PSP-3000, go for the PSP-3000. I got one friend in college who showed it to me one day. It looked like the previous model. Then he handed it to me: "..." "HOLY SHIT" I thought it was some falsified, chinese, ultra-cheap PSP-looking handheld, but... it really was the PSP... with a feather's weight. It was almost as if the handheld was empty. Soooooooooooooo damn LIGHT!!! And here I thought my PSP-2000 was already too light.

Hmm, alright.
Maybe I won't mod it then, if it is impossible or whatever.
In any case, I'll have some fun, since I already own so many games.

It shouldn't be. Don't update your firmware beyond 5.03 if you get a TA-088v3 or a PSP3000 and you'll be fine. There are exploits that rely on that particular firmware to create custom firmware, so you'll be fine. That's what I did too, since I do have a TA-088v3. For older PSP2000s, you just use a pandora battery.
If your v3/PSP3000 comes with firmware 5.50 or above, though, you're screwed.

Nothing that a good, big hammer can't handle. xDSeriously though, I didn't know the latest firmawares could prevent modding. That would suck a bit, for a while... Let's just hope that not. xD And even so, Smithee got some stuff for it already, so he'll be fine.

As I'm sure I've made abundantly clear in the past, too, you really don't NEED to mod your PSP to get a lot of use out of it. -Tom Quoted for truth!

... That's true, I guess. Just a minute ago, I was listening to music on my PSP while doing other things, for example. Watching videos on it is also possible. It's also possible to read mangas on it as well, though I personally don't think it's worth it, because the image quality suffers quite noticeably if you try to adjust the files to the proper PSP screen size. xD By the way, damn, I need that Wild Arms song posted by Wyrd in that other thread. I can't stop listening to it, or whistling it. I'll look for the MP3 later, and put it on my PSP.

As true as it may be, I'm a cheapo what can I say? Heeheehee. Then that brings my final question: Which packages of the PSPs have which versions? Say the Hannah Montana one (ign) has the moddable version but the Rock Band Unplugged one doesn't, for example?

... I'm not sure. It would depend when such bundles/packages were released: if they were originally released before 5.50 OFW existed, then the PSP will likely be moddable.
I don't know how exactly you can find it out, but you'd need to know the bundle's and the 5.50 OFW's release dates. Wikipedia? (If there is any PSP or OFW article, and/or an article for a given bundle.) Google is also always there to help: "OFW release dates" as key words could work, as well as "insert_bundle_name_here release date".
