Yeah, I know, I'm just wondering how they get away with using the name. To me, it's like someone making a board game, & calling it Final Fantasy or Breath of Fire......though, granted, those are longer names, but, Ys isn't a common word like final, fantasy, breath, etc.

Uh, isn't it called Volume Dabbie? I don't recall seeing it spelled or pronounced with an L before. I'm used to Dah-Bee. I think I know what song you speak of, but I have a hard time remembering all the names of those songs, maybe it'll come to me.

Hey now, I enjoy Harmony of Dissonance, so, I'm sure SOTN is wonderful. I gotta say, for now, I LOVE Dawn of Sorrow, I wish I had a copy of SOTN, I do have a "burn" of the Saturn version, but it'd be nice to have the real thing

The voice acting is terrible, no doubt! But, if it flopped, I know the US got a Greatest Hits version, it couldn't of flopped too badly?

Are you sure SOTN was a bigger hit? It seems more like a cult thing, I mean, most people go nuts over any MGS game, while it seems a smaller fraction go nuts over CV games. Just an observation, I personally haven't played thru SOTN yet, but, I'm sure I'd enjoy it like the rest of the Metroivania's.

I personally rate game on how they stand up today. But I base how good games are, on the system, & what that system was capable of. I suppose it's sort of a confusing round about way, but, there's games that came out for the NES or even the 2600, that I also put up with games that came out on PS2, DS, etc.
And yeah, Galaga 88 was the original title, including what it was called on the PC Engine, but when they brought it over to the States on the Turbo Grafx, they renamed it 90 since it came out around 89-90.

Yeah, R-type came out in the arcades first. Then was released on the PC Engine, on 2 seperate cartridges, but came out over in NA as one cart, then later they made the R-type Complete CD, which was cool, but they could've added more to it. Hmm, it says Bomberman 1993, & there was a game for Turbo called Bomberman 93, but yet they say the arcade version? The only arcade Bomberman I know of, is Bomberman World, which came out later for the PSX. Ofcoarse, Galaga 1981 isn't the same game that was released on the Turbo(Galaga 90)......which I happen to enjoy more, then the original There should be alot more Turbo games on there, like Bonk & Ninja Spirit. Super Mario Bros. the best game? Not IMHO, I think they're looking at it from the point of view of how these games were for their time. I look at them, as to how they stand up now, as there's more 2d games that I love, then 3d

I've gotten alot of great deals from Hit Japan, mainly cd games. Personally, I have a Turbo with the CD, a Duo, 2 Super Grafx's, & a PCE GT, so, I can speak from experience. Either get a Turbo Grafx with a CD Rom, or a Japanese Duo or R, or RX, etc. Personally, my US Duo, does play CDr's just fine, but, it also overheats, thankfully I only payed about $30 for it . Thought, nowadays, I play most my Turbo games on my PC, since I have a video out on my computer, & I use a PS1 controller, & play them on my TV that way. There are alot of great US hucards, but offhand, I can't think of many that are hard to play in Japanese.

Except for Arcade CD's, which, you'd need the Kisado Converter & the Arcade Card Duo. But, for any of your Falcom needs, you don't need the Arcade Card, so, don't worry about that. Oh, & don't forget, we're(Frozen Utopia, which is me, Seldane, & some others) making NEW games for the Turbo/PC Engine

If they did V, I'm assuming & hoping, that the music would be redone, more in the traditional Ys style. BTW Sel, where you been?

Looks intersting, this ofcoarse mostly goes over my head, I'm the music guy, & I do voice acting, & verbal sound effects for characters. If you PM Nodveidt, keep in mind he's a little busy right now with his wife about to have a baby(which I only just now remembered), so don't expect an answer back right away. I haven't gotten any feedback from him in a week or 2, but don't let that discourage you. You could even post questions in our forum, in the developers area, maybe start a thread in General Development. There are others that visit, that may be able to help you as well!

I was only guessing on who might be playable. If you're having trouble on figuring out how to do the levels, how much items should be, etc. You might want to talk to Nodveidt, who is the head programmer of Frozen Utopia. One of, if not our first release, will be a turn based rpg. It's actually a remake of a PC game he was involved in several years ago. Maybe he could help you in some way. Here's our website frozenutopia.nodtveidt.net/index.html You can join our message board & PM Nodveidt if you want. BTW, Seldane, the creator of the Ancient Land of Ys boards is one of our newest members. He's currently working on tiles for one of our projects & will probably be setting up level design & other stuff. edit-you won't be able to post in our Development Team only threads, but there are dedicated Developers threads.

Wow, I didn't even notice this before! I don't mind a turn based battle system. I'm assuming that Adol won't be the only char you get in it. Dogi would be my first guess for 1 of them, then maybe Goban, Ernst, Karna? Is this going to be playable on PC? I noticed that you said RPG maker, is there any RPG maker for PC? Also, when you do finish it, would you mind if we(Frozen Utopia) made our own version of it for the Turbo Grafx/PC Engine?

No problem, yeah, that Darm song is probably on the Ys 4 Perfect Collection Vol 1.....which I don't have. I have rips of Vols 2 & 3, but I know Justus used music from the Perfect Collections for the Dub of Ys 4...which I don't know if it will ever come out I don't think that other song though is on the Perfect Collections, if it is, I would think it'd be in Vol 3, which like I said, I have a rip wrong. But, I don't have Vol 1, so, it's always possible

So you're saying you've got a demo version of Ys IV The Dawn of Ys for PCE? I thought you meant the Mega-CD version. Interesting stuff. Does anybody have ANYTHING from the Mega-CD version of Mask of the Sun? I mean that you KNOW is from the Mega-CD version, not just alternate mp3s that could be anything, even fan remixes. Heh, I WISH I had something confirmed to be for the Mega CD version. I wonder if what little was made for will ever leak onto the net, that'd be nice, so we could see where they were going with it!

It's a not hoax, the first track, for some reason, is the warning track that you'd hear on a Turbo Grafx cd game, then the 2nd is ofcoarse the data, then there's 2 audio tracks. I got a burn of it from someone awhile back. It's just a short demo of the Dawn of Ys, & I think it says at the end, coming soon or something. BTW, Sel, do you have an email address that can recieve decent sized files? I can send them to you too!

Ok, I just checked it. It has 2 redbook audio tracks. 1 is the remake of the final battle song with Darm, used in the cinema of Ys 4, but it doesn't have the talking or sound effects!? The other is the boss song I spoke of, they use piano in places where the newer version used guitar, not to mention I think the drums are done differently! Another wierd thing, is that the first track, the warning track.....is in english. It's kind of odd.

For anyone that has an email account that can handle several megabytes, I can send the songs to. I know atleast one of the songs is deffinitly different. It's basically another version of Yngwie Malmsteen's song that was used in both Dawn of Ys & Mask of the Sun. I can't remember where it was used in Dawn of Ys, but in the SNES/SFC version of MOTS it was used for the final battle with Eldeel. I think the alt. version I have uses more piano. And I think there's atleast one more song that's slightly different. I'll have to check asap.
