I'm about to give on PC gaming anyway, since I can't get rid of these trojans. And they cause all my games to lag HORRENDOUSLY at random intervals. What kind of sites do you go to!? When I get viruses, I tend to know why -- re: *cough* Jolly Rogering software *cough*. :P Also, Spyware Doctor's not bad. Except if you use WindowsBlinds. Then it becomes a chore because you have to reinstall the WB every time Spyware Doctor does a search. Maybe I could tell it that whatever it picks up from it is not suspicious but I never bothered looking into how to do that. Wish PC Tools would fix that. And! If you get Hijack This! and generate a log file from that, people at those anti-virus/anti-spyware forums can help you clean your computer! :D This is the place I went to when things were going haywire: www.bleepingcomputer.com/Don't give up on PC gaming! Just be more careful where you go on the Web and what you download!

Decreases the duration of status ailments by 1 second for every level, with a maximum of 3 seconds. That's 3 seconds less time you'll be suffering poison damage or what-not. Not the greatest Guardian in the world, but it's pretty nice. Mind if I add that to the FAQ? D:

There's a lot of good anti-spyware out there. IMO, the most effective combination is SpySweeper plus HijackThis (registry scan) plus a cleaner - CleanUp or CCclean. A good one to remove spyware permanently in SpyBot, since it blocks the origin of spyware for good, making sure you don't get the same thing twice.
I only use those if sth big happens. Otherwise, I agree that an effective use of your brain and a good pop-up and script blocker (or just use the Opera browser) is the best prevention measure to make sure you won't even need those. I've been able to get by for 2-3 years with no antivirus or antispyware using just common sense.

So, been playing more XANADU NEXT... LOL the World of Dead is f'ing impossible; on the first try I got fried before I even got to the wooden sword >___< I think I'll just skip that and go straight to final boss...
Also, the Time Crevice BGM is now officially my fav. Xanadu tune.

Also, the Time Crevice BGM is now officially my fav. Xanadu tune. *head-desk* One of these days, I WILL make my Rage-inducing Gaming Music list (a.k.a. tunes I dislike because there are far too many "Best of" lists) on YouTube. This tune will DEFINITELY be on it. Goddamn Time Crevice track. I had to go through the entire dungeon with the volume off because of it. And Nunuu: It's funny, as I don't go to any really odd websites, but if I don't have NoScript running, I ALWAYS up up with 20-30 pieces of spyware every week. I think a lot of just normal websites have a lot of crazy things goin' on in them. Obviously, those sites aren't very normal then, are they!?!?!?!? XD

I got many hours into Xanadu Next before I realized I hadn't applied the patch that unlocked the World of the Dead, and savegame files don't carry over from the level 20 cap version of the game to the level 30 cap version, so I never actually attempted the optional dungeon. Probably wouldn't have bothered, though, if it's that difficult. And Time Crevice is very cool, but does anyone else think it kinda sounds like a "hurry" theme from some Final Fantasy game when it first starts? The Time Crevice was also my least-favorite part of the game proper, because it destroyed the whole "single interconnected world" thing I loved about it. I really appreciate when the entire map to a game could theoretically be sculpted out of a single brick of clay or something, because everything fits together so well... and until the Time Crevice, Xanadu Next was the single best example of that I'd ever seen since Super Metroid (which, being 2D, was more like a single sheet of paper than a single block of clay, but I think you get what I'm saying, at least!). But the Time Crevice had to go and ruin it. Still awesome map design, though, ASIDE from that one section. -Tom I dunno, the saves carried over just fine for me. IIRC, I did go from 1.0 to 1.0.4. Although I feel like I shouldn't have, since now I got a D on the "Level" when it could've been an A or an S. I'm not quite that big on "single world" design. I like having a big world to explore, to travel around the world map, discover locations etc (sort of like Fallout or Baldur's Gate II style), if the separate locations are developed well-enough themselves. Maybe it's because "single world" reminds me of Dungeon Siege, which was a quite traumatically boring experience for me. I also think the Crevice location in itself is built pretty well, I wish it was longer and more strict though - for example completely forbidding ANY teleportation, sort of like that tower in YSO. And also I'm a sucker for all those outlandish-looking locations like Kishgal/Ark in Ys, and the Crevice in Xanadu Next. As for the theme, I'm not sure which FF song you're referring to... If you mean the FFVII version, then I see little similarity... And I still hold to my opinion that the awesome violins and the cool dissonance make the theme well above any other in the game. I don't really see how someone else liking a song can be a sensible reason for dissing it (other than trolling...)? Also it's not on any "best of" list of mine, since I don't have one or plan to make one, and the theme would probably not make it anyway. I may try to learn it and make a cover one of these days though =P

I don't think Nunuu is dissing it, she's just stating that she doesn't like it. Indeed~! Ausdoerrt has missed the rage in the past! ;o;~

I just played Xanadu Next for the first time over the summer. Fun game. I especially liked how Falcom used high-detail textures to make the game look great despite the incredibly low polygon counts (seriously, look at the hands on any of the human models) My favorite song was the final boss song... though I guess that's the most traditional Ys-sounding song in the game... I never finished the optional dungeon, only got up to the 10th floor or so. Basically when I finished the game and found that it grades you, my head exploded because the completionist in me wanted to collect everything in the game, hit max level, level all the guardians to max, AND get the best grade. I promptly uninstalled it until further notice (ie-an English patch and a breakdown of how the grading system works) ...and then I saw this vid

Makes me wonder how the grading system works, actually, since, well, I collected every damn box in the game except for the World of Dead, and still got a C rank. WTF?

So, uh, what exactly is this game? I figure asking is easier than reading through 17 pages. But, well, I guess it's only in Japanese, so maybe it's better just to snag the soundtrack and be done with it.

A.k.a. the Inspector Gadget song, apparently. ;) I dunno why, but I just really, really like the eerieness of that particular track. Awww. I clicked on the link hoping for something like this: Well, not particularly like THAT but you get the point. XD But ... yeaaaah~ I was in the D club too. :D I am a save freak. XD!

Oh, you're making a translation patch for this as well? Haha, I'm so uninformed. But you really are a busy fellow...
It sounds cool, though, I'll look forward to whenever the patch is released. It actually sounds a lot like Demon's Souls, at least in regard to the slow, careful and atmospheric hack and slash elements.
Btw, that "Inspector Gadget Song" is great. I like eerie music like that too if it's executed properly, which that certainly is.

In fact, 'eerie music executed properly' is a perfect description of the entire soundtrack for this awesome game.

Anyone who expects music that is not executed perfectly from a Falcom game is a failure.

I could mention some stuff I don't have much love for at all. Most of it is from Brandish. The Dark Revenant's soundtrack is still nice, though.

Playing the game can significantly improve a soundtrack, I've often found. It's probably because after we experience a scene, fight or what have you in the game, you'll associate that with the music that was playing at the time. So whenever you're listening to a CD and you hear, for example, a certain boss theme, you'll automatically recall the epic fight along with the music, which increases the amount of "fondness" you'll get compared to if you'd simply listened to the music without any additional context to back it up.

^ Well, certainly, since the soundtrack is there to enhance the gaming experience, and it does sort of work backwards as well. But the truly great soundtracks are the ones that stand well enough on their own. This goes for anything from games to movies and even animation OP sequences. The famous Ys songs are like that, the Guilty Gear OST, some Chaos Legion OST tracks. XANADU is very atmospheric and even sometimes comes close to ambient, so I'd expect few people having that on their mp3 player for day-to-day listening.

Anyone who expects music that is not executed perfectly from a Falcom game is a failure. By now you'd expect that, yes. However, not all's so happy. For example, the out-of-tune guitars and horrible violin-playing in the YsVI soundtrack lay waste to the great songwriting. Oh the bottle Inspector Gadget theme was awesome!
