VI's soundtrack had some really great songs.
But it's not as good as some other Falcom soundtracks... :/

IMHO, Origin has the best soundtrack which easily beats Felghana, since it balances the symphonic aspect with the rock/metal aspect extremely well. I haven't played Ys7, or any other non-Ys Falcom titles, so I wouldn't know anything about the rest of them.
I tend to dislike the Super Arrange versions, since I dislike slow-paced, unnecessarily cheesy and slowed down versions of fast-paced dramatic songs in general (game music or otherwise). JDK versions range from below average to great, with recent ones being excellent (the concert stuff I've seen on YTube is great). The ones I dislike are the heavily re-interpreted ones, especially if done in a different tuning from the original.

Well, most of OiF songs just don't work to be remixed like that. Premonition might just be one of the few that do... Well, Xanadu I have played, but its music isn't sth I'd put on my player. Origin vs OiF... I didn't really catch the part about instrumentation when I was listening to the soundtracks... Unless you include the guitars it doesn't make much sense to me - since YSO OST sounds more natural than OiF. Having a dude play all 20-something tracks on a guitar, however good he is, doesn't make for that great a soundtrack (and that's not what happens in YSF anyway); the violins sound even better than in OiF (still a bit overloaded on the Treble, but not as bad as before); the whole epic/choral idea for the main theme works really well with the story/setting and is arranged and played better than any single track on OiF (I mean the Genesis something track), while OiF doesn't even have that catchy intro track; finally, just judging by numbers, I like to listen to Valestein, Sealed Time and maaaaybe the Fire Level theme from OiF, but many more than that in Origin. If there's one concern I have with the YSO OST, it's that the final boss theme sounds too much like a Touhou theme. Compare: www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kdbUVN1Pmwand www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIop055eJhUI like Touhou music, but I don't think that's what Ys music should be (even if Ys 1/2 boss battles gameplay isn't that far from a danmaku in some cases). On the other hand, 'My Lord Our Brave' intro sounds so much like Nightwish that it is instantly awesome. EDIT: That said, I have to recognize that mine is probably not a common opinion, especially among video game players; I grew up on classical music which I still love in its many styles, and sometime in middle school I switched to metal, and now listen to many bands that'd be seen as "extreme". I also enjoy visual-kei =P On the other hand, I was never into the whole pop-music thing or even rock aside from a few punk bands, so the things I value in music may seem a bit strange.

Warriors is the greatest track Falcom's ever written. To me it's the second greatest, but I completely comprehend your decision. My favorite was the track right before that one on the OST CD... I forgot the name though... it was something about skies or journey. Wow~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Wait, going to get my favorite CD.

Zwei's OST my number Zwei. Not surprising since it's made by the same three guys and one woman. Hell, even goddess Kahori's extolling the virtues of VMJ OST.

I dunno what Falcom was smoking when they composed this, but it sure was good stuff. Usually, wondering what someone or some people were smoking is reserved for crappy stuff. ^^; And Kahori IS awesome. She's so kind and polite and all that. She was one of my fave eBay sellers long time ago! Definitely someone that deserved the A++++++++++++++++++ (to infinity) rating!

I still can't figure out why people hate the OiF Super Arrange so much, as it really does have some pretty amazing music on it, including an awesome rock ballad version of Premonition that I just can't get enough of! That's one of the few tracks on the album that I actually really liked, especially the vocals (oddly enough). My biggest beefs with the OiF SAV are the track selection (where's Steeling the Will to Fight and Beat of Destruction, damnit!?) and lack of actual arranges. About half of the tracks are just the game versions with a few tweaks. The arranges of A Premonition and Sealed Time are fantastic, though.

Not now, though. I mean, Falcom usually produces kickass stuff by default, alright, but at THAT one time, they really were into something. xD The Weed of Awesome™

I like that this thread is active right now.. as I've gotten my now yearly winter itch to play through Xanadu NEXT.
I think this is the fourth year in a row.. I'll check my save files when I actually start it.

I keep telling myself I'll play Ys SEVEN more, then I end up refreshing webpages while listening to music for hours.

Ah, a kindred spirit. I admit, defeated, that this is how I spend many, many hours of my free time.
At least I felt like chilling with some VM Japan after checking this thread. I can never decide what to listen to anymore.

I need to get back into the translation, too. I keep telling myself that I'll translate a little more of the game today, but then I just play Dinosaur or work on my Japanese resume and cover letter instead. After Christmas, and especially after New Year's, I should hopefully have fewer things hanging over my head, and be able to devote more time and energy to the translation. -Tom About how far are you with it?

WEll.. soem news...some time ago we coded the Xanadu Next unpacker/repacker. In the last days of 2009, ten days ago, we finally coded the graphic converter to converter the graphic g32 files to a common one and after that to reconvert the edited ones to the g32 ones. everything is goin' fine... we are now workin' on the major hack over the executable in order to make itaccept space, accented and to modify that fucking embedded string parser that creates a lot of troubles. We will provide informations once available... Ys origin is goin' on, and another secret project was approached with the first cool results...hehehe...it's asecret right noe. i'll proide informations about is soon Bye Bye
