-I was thinking the mute-ness was caused by the same thing that caused Iskan fever, causing it to clear up.
-PS2 version hands down. The PSP version has loading issues when starting up, moving between areas, and even during the level up animation. Also the game was designed to be viewed on a large screen but when Konami did the port, they just shrunk everything down, making it look too grainy. The text can be difficult to read in areas too.
-And yes, Geis rocks. My jaw hit the floor when I found out he's playable.

I gotta say, with stuff like gigantic monsters out to ruin the world, magic, gravity-defying skills and Scias' far more nonsensical character development to choose from, I really don't get why this is where you fault the game for a lack of realism... I mean, if it was totally nonsensical I could see why it would irk you, but Tia's death simply serves as a psychological catalyst for Maya. The cause for her muteness was probably also psychological to begin with. I doubt it'd be the Iskan fever since none of the others who have it are mutes, but who knows.

Wasn't Maya's muteness caused by post-traumatic stress disorder, or something of the sort?

That would make sense, given the death of her parents.

Yeah, the innocent cute child becoming mute after seeing something horrible seems to be a stereotype in Japanese fictions. Suikoden II does it with Pilika (after Luca Blight murdered her friend right in front of her), Ashita no Nadja does it with Rita, and Ys Seven decides to follow the suit. I guess some people just have a thing for cute innocent mute. It's really one of the main rules in video games and anime: if there's a cute innocent child, the game will break him/her; otherwise, the player will get a chance to do so (Fallout 3 with slavers). I for one would like to see these kids popping up to serve as more than a convenient tool for garnering the audience's sympathy.

But... wouldn't both Elk and (Ys V) Terra fall into kids category too?! And they seemed pretty constructive and not mere sympathy tools! ...Well... Elk does atleast. :'D

Terra-hater. ;-p
Actually, given that her role in most of V is to annoy the hell out of you by stealing your hard-earned shinies, I doubt you could call her a sympathy tool (and given her designs on Adol, innocence is kind of suspect too). She is, however, more constructive than just being a cute kid.

In the mouth.

Back to Ys 7... I want to punch Zanzibar. In the mouth. You're supposed to want to punch him in the mouth. That's the way the writers want you to feel; like when you watch an evil villain in a movie, you want to stop him. The actor's not evil, just the characters. ... So I guess my point is, if you ever run into Zanzibar on the street, don't punch him in the mouth. ... The post felt pointless, even to me.

But what if we meet Zanzibar in a game?
Then it would be totally out of character for any of us to not deliver a fist of justice to his jawbone at a good velocity for causing pain.
...I kinda hope we get to go sailing with One Eye Ladoc in Ys 8, raiding burning all of the bases - of Evil!

If I ever ran into Zanzibar on the street, I'd punch him. Then I'd ask what the hell he's doing in our world and theaten to punch him some more if he didn't tell me where I could find Aisha or Cruxie, who I'd much rather meet.

I hope I don't get beat up for saying this, but Aisha feels like the Terra of Ys 7. If I met her in real life, I'd put in my headphones to drown out the stupid.

Nah, don't worry, I hate Aisha too. I don't like Mishera either, for that matter. Not that I hate her, but she's so damn bland and dull that she's just kinda.... there. You could replace her with a magical key that performs her plot-related functions (IIRC she just lets you enter the wind sanctum) and nothing would feel even a tiny bit different (gameplay excluded, obviously).

Well, then it shouldn't surprise you that I dislike them both!
Lilia is my favorite Ys girl (no, really). Tia is probably my second-favorite.
