Today, I noticed Falcom added three IR documents at the usual place. I haven't looked through them all yet, but the second pdf contained something that caught my attention. Specifically the very last part. My Japanese knowledge is pretty crappy, but it seems to say Falcom is interested in pushing their PSP releases to the North American market in their aim to pursue wordwide profits. I'm betting they're mostly referring to the Sora no Kiseki trilogy and Ys 1 and 2 Chronicles, but perhaps Zwei!! and Brandish will also see English releases? Of course, confirmation from Japanese speakers would be appreciated ^^

Yup, I think Ys seven would be at the top of the North American projects. Anyway, wouldnt it take a some time, maybe a long time till they release the NA versions since they need to find a professional translating team, and maybe a base in the U.S. if its required.

Pushing for licensing agreements and NA releases is definitely worthwhile from Falcom's corporate standings. Opening a US branch office...Probably not. The history of North American gaming industry is littered with the large and small Japanese companies attempting to open American subsidaries, only to fail, often times dismally.
A licensing agreement is more likely. Atlus, XSeed, NIS America (Hey, if they can get Sega to license Sakura Wars, then they most be moving up in the world.), to name three, though the way XSeed keeps shifting their licenses to other parties is a bit worrying...

What great timing! I need a job, I'd love to work for Falcom, and this sounds like a job that'd ultimately require a native English-speaker. Hmmm!! OMG! And yeah, this is EXACTLY what popped up in my mind the moment I read this thread's first post. Just, wow, seriously, this timing is soooo scarily amazing.

Falcom has tried this before, and we only got one good game out of the deal. Hopefully things go much better for them this time, because damn, I really want more English in my Falcom games.

I don't think Falcom themselves have ever actually tried this before. Third-party companies have, but never Falcom themselves. So we'll see if things go a little differently when they take the initiative on their own. -Tom You don't remember Sega-Falcom, and their one really good Sega CD title?

The most interesting thing is that it says "Sega Falcom" was originally conceived to develop a SONIC title. It would have been something like a Sonic RPG for the Sega CD. I think I'd almost prefer that over the faithful adaption of Mail? Gaming magazine Electronic Gaming Monthly reported rumours of a new game in Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog series called Sister Sonic, which was to be shown at the Tokyo Toy Fair in June 1993. The game, which ultimately did not appear in the Fair, would have been a remake of the PC Popful Mail using Sonic characters in place of Mail's. After Mail fans petitioned against the remake, "Sega Falcom" (the alliance between Sega and Falcom that would have made Sister Sonic) instead created a version of Popful Mail for the Sega CD, retaining original characters Mail, Tatt, and Gaw.[4]

But the SCD game that came out wasn't exactly a "port" of the original. Sega and Falcom got together to basically design an engine. They wouldn't have formed such an official alliance just to license Popful Mail characters. I think they flirted between using characters from the two universes and ultimately went with the fans (because Sega rules).
However a Sonic RPG in 1993 would have easily become a classic. Who knows how that might have changed the course of history for Falcom? Look how many news fans of the genre Square raked in with Mario RPG.

I had read somewhere though, that Falcom had intended to break into foreign markets using Sega as a vehicle, which unfortunately never happened. I'm looking for the link now. Ether way, had Falcom and Sega done more together, I have no doubt in my mind that Sega would have brought over some of their titles as well.

Yeah, I have to admit, that would've been pretty sweet. A Falcom-style Sonic game... I can't think of a more awesome idea. -Tom I hesitate to say this, but maybe a remake of Ys 1&2 in full 3D. I'm trying to imagine how awesome a well done version of the temple of solomon would be. Adol walks through the gate and an expansive shrine opens up before him... it'd be pretty sweet. And the player would get a good feel for how tall the tower of darm actually is. The only problem is, the world needs another remake of Ys 1&2 like I need another C on my transcript.

I'm sure sure they'll remake Ys 1/ 2 another half a dozen times and one of them will be 3D.

Also, what about Ys Seven? I totally think Ys Seven would be their most likely candidate for a debut worldwide release! Yes, please! And go for it wyrd! Be the Falcom Man!

I've only played it once, and... to be honest, I don't know if I want to again. Or at least, Ys I. *braces for mass gunfire*
In all seriousness; goddamn, I hope this works out.
