Yeah, Ys I is weak on it's own. It's all about Ys II. But if you're going to remake II, you gotta have I. Agreed with everybody, I hope this IR updates amounts to something. I don't agree. I like Ys I much better than II. That Solomon Temple is too overwhelming. Really, I lost count how many times I've played II in all it's different versions, and I still get lost in that damn place. And Ys I is just CLASSIC. I love it.

Ys II has better bosses from what I can tell, but the dungeon designs are just legendarily bad in my opinion. I'm -still- lost in Rasteenie Mine. And that's nothing compared to Solomon. Then again, I'm lost in the water temple in SEVEN right now, too. Maybe my quirk of always needing a walkthrough for RPGs is rearing its ugly head again.

Now I remember, the dungeon where you're most likely to get lost's the mine in Ys I. That little spotlight really makes things hard. It's still fun, though, for some reason. Thankfully, it's only three levels deep.

Oddly, I'm having more trouble with Rasteenie Mine in Ys II, although it probably has to do with the fact that Rasteenie is a bunch of little rooms instead of a handful of massive rooms.

I know what you mean... It took some time for me to get used to that dungeon, but now I'm pretty familiar with it.

Oh, this is (potentially, I guess) good news. I've played all the localized Falcom PSP games, well, I'm in the process of playing the last one, and I'd love some more.
Though, in all honesty, the only games that would REALLY get me riled up are Ys Seven and Sora no Kiseki. The other stuff is nice, but it's not on that level, imo.
Oh, and I like Ys I and Ys II about the same, though I prefer Ys I's music in general. Tower of the Shadow of Death is just too good. Even though Ys II also has classics like Termination and, this is probably more of a personal favorite, Ice Ridge of Nolita.

I have to admit that I've never actually played any games from either of those series, but from what I saw, I would rather have Ys Seven or Sora no Kiseki. Then again, it's not that they don't look great in their own right, and it could be that I simply have to try them before really appreciating them.
edit/note: don't get me wrong, I'd be thrilled regardless of what they decide to localize, especially because that would mean we're more likely to receive future Falcom titles as well; it's just that given the choice, I would personally pick Sora no Kiseki or Ys Seven. Probably Sora no Kiseki because Ys Seven is easier to play and enjoy without a knowledge of Japanese, I think.

And don't let Nunuu say otherwise, regarding Xanadu Next. She's CRAZY, I tell you. ;) The hell I am! But it's getting to the point that I can't remember why I don't like the game other than the fact that everyone put it high on a pedestal and worshipped it and made my expectations super high.

Of course not. If it's Falcom, I'll at least check it out. I bought Gurumin on a random impulse too, and that turned out to be a good choice.

I too would like to have another Gurumin game. I recently finished it for PSP and I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would, that's for sure. The music for it is amazing and I really liked Parin's character and the fact that she makes a springy sound when she jumps. : ) Neat design for the characters as well!

Really? I thought that was rather... atypical. Black Bean, however... I occasionally play Gurumin again and again just to see if I still have what it takes to beat him. Let's just say... that never really happened in a long time. XD Gah, I need Pleasure Mode!

I would have to say Origin's finale was one of the more epic Falcom finales I've noted. That, along with... hmmm... Napishtim's (if I could count the whole set at the end as a collective finale, with Ernst and Galba, etc.), A Tear of Vermilion's, and... well, that's pretty much it! The secret boss in Gurumin would've made for a decent finale, though! I still want to know WHO this Black Bean is, where s/he came from, and what his/her prerogative was! Perhaps this would be relevant in the sequel, eh? I would still love to see a Gurumin II someday, starring Prince Pinprick (I don't remember his name!) if at all possible! // I mean, think about it. Perhaps it could be set entirely in the human world?! That'd certainly heighten the experience -- although Digimon already did that in the first series.

I'm still waiting for an Ys IV remake on the PC (or PSP). :( Enough with Ys I & II already. T__________________T
Afterall, Falcom wasn't completely involved in either Ys IV, yar? So! We need one that's 100% in-house Falcom made! >:O

And that just makes Black Bean all the more awesome! I should've known, he looks just like his servants and people, a race of big white eyed cycloptic monsters! ...but I thought Prince Pinprick (XD Again... I don't remember his name!) was the real prince?! That's... something I must've missed out on entirely! I agree with you. XD But seeking Prince Bean? That doesn't make sense, given how all-powerful he is! He can't be a "damsel in distress". That'd have to be more of a side story. However it could also deal in Prince Bean's lost memory -- and his battle to recover his lost kingdom? Perhaps even the awakening of a new threat, or a new game starring the blonde haired girl with the Dragon Slayer? Perhaps the barrier between the worlds could atypically be shattering, causing an epic cataclysm? There are so many possibilities!

Hmmm... you're right, and that was actually what got me into the whole experience enough to seek out the medals! On the other hand, it'd be a neat twist to see Prince Bean star in his own game, and due to his memory loss, perhaps even a negative influence, act AGAINST his own subjects. I have yet to see a game which does this!

Out of nowhere! The new game is Brandish 5: Revenge of Dela! You beat Brandish yet Wyrdwad? That boss that's epic in gameplay and story and music sounds like the final boss of The Dark Revenant. About the final boss of Gurumin, I hated drilling off the armor as I always ended up charging against his feet and stuff like that. But Black Bean is a really cool battle, I had to fight him quite a few times because I was insistent on getting my reward .

As long as you knew to perform the Circle-Attack move during Neo Galaxy. That IS special. Not like Ys II Special, or its special and especially risque ending pictures, but still totally special. Of Falcom's specialty.

Actually, you can use the dodge during neo galaxy, the timing is just a lot harder.
And compared to the harder modes, fighting him on normal felt really short...
Not really sure the scuba suit was worth it all though, because it didn't look that impressive and it just was god mode against everything. :/

So, uh, did anything new surface yet? I'm normally patient about stuff like this because I'm cynical and pessimistic and doesn't believe it'll ever happen, but when it gets announced, I change into a rabid fan who's like "GIVE ME MORE INFO NOW!"
