Okay, the Vita Ys VIII LE is looking great. I've completely lost track of time and forgot this was coming out already. Is it Vita only or is there also a PS3 or 4 edition? Meh, even if it is Vita only, the eventual XSEED release better work with the PS TV. That was the best $40 Memories of Celceta TV adapter that I ever bought.

I don't think I've done that specifically in Ys II, but the Ys series have so many gated events like that, I know I've done it in one of my numerous playthroughs of other games in the series. Especially if it was rushing through Easy or Normal while I was trying to clear out all difficulties and especially if I was playing an untranslated game.

To me it is extra weird because the config app recognizes the triggers, but then in game they do not respond.
I have found a second game that ignores the triggers: Beat Hazard Ultra

So when the Steam Link is powered up and is on the screen where you select which computer to stream from, there is an option on the left to add or manage devices. Something like that. Go in there and it'll list all bluetooth devices it can find. On your PS4 controller, hold down the PS button & and Share button until the light starts flashing on it. That means it's in pairing mode. It should show up on your Steam Link now as a controller. Highlight the controller and click connect down on the bottom and you should be good to go! Being able to play with a wireless controller is awesome, though the Steam Link will complain about every game being better experienced with a keyboard and mouse.. at least all of the ones I've seen so far. Only caveat I've found is that you have to re-sync your controller if you completely power off your Steam Link. Now I just stop streaming, hold the PS button for 10 seconds to turn off the controller, and let the Steam Link go into standby mode by sitting idle. Holding the PS button on the synced controller will wake the Steam Link back up.
On Steam Community, someone said that Ys Felghana doesn't like analog Triggers in general and one register even a real 360 controller. I've always played with a PS2 controller using a PS2->USB converter, so I don't know. If that's true, than it's a bummer since the config util does at least register the PS4 triggers and assigns a button number to them.

I got a Steam Link recently and I use a Dualshock 4 controller connected via bluetooth to play my games. It works awesomely, as either Steam streaming or Big Picture mode takes care of remapping the Dualshock 4 to an XBox 360 controller, but I have found one major caveat in my Steam collection: Ys games.
Okay, so not all of them. I've tested this with Ys Napishtim & Felghana so far. I wouldn't be surprised if it extends to Origin and Trails in the Sky as they use similar config tools and were released by Falcom around the same time.
Anyhow, while the config utility reads the controller as an XBox 360 one and lets me remap buttons fine, when I'm in the actual game, pressing Circle, L Trigger, or R Trigger doesn't do anything. I dunno if anyone else has info or experience with this issue, but just getting the info out there. If I ever fix it or find out more, I'll update here.

To me, FC had a bland and directionless story, but the battle system was just enough flavor added to the simple ATB system to make it fun to try to maximize the gain from your Quartz layouts and get all the turn bonuses you could. And I used to think that the music in FC was bland in general before I just got over that it isn't butt rock like Ys nor overly epic like FF nor pure animu like Tails of. Just recently I fired up FC while testing Steam Streaming and my wife took note of the battle theme immediately because of it's up-beat jazziness. Repeating my old thoughts on the story: It's like Cassius is out looking for the plot the entire game while Estelle and Joshua are touring the country, defining the setting. I trudged through the game, but as soon as Cassius returns during the final boss fight and through the epilogue, the real story finally picked up and I found myself immediately wanting SC. but, lol, opinions

When I get home, I'm buying Trails in the Sky SC on Steam. When I'll actually get to play it, though... I don't know.

I can confirm. Last friday I found that a local Best Buy was selling Playstation TVs for $40 (spoilers, Amazon has them for $35). I bought one just to play Ys Memories of Celceta because I don't own a Vita. So I spent $40 on a Falcom TV adapter (I only have Celceta and Brandish loaded on it). You don't even need a memory card to play Celceta. The internal memory on the PSTV is enough.
I almost considered picking up TitS:SC's PSP release just to play on PSTV because I still have my FC PSP save, but never got around to getting a complete FC save on Steam.
Other thoughts: Having the PSTV as a US-registered device is nice because I like to keep my PSP on JP-registered for my Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity DLC, LSD Dream Emulator, IQ Final, & Umihara Kawase. Good on XSEED for having so many games available digitally. Boo on Sega for not having Phantasy Star Portable 2 available digitally nor Sega of Japan for supporting PSO2 on PSTV. At $35 I almost considered buying another PSTV for my JP PSN account to be a Phantasy Star TV adapter....

So is there any reason to choose PC over the PSP version or vice versa? I thought for FC the PSP was a better choice because of it being a later port. I was aiming for the PC version of SC, though.
If only there was a way to get my PSP save from FC converted to the PC and save myself one replay.

I've always been meh about Trails of generic anime school uniforms from a overview perspective, but know nothing else about it. At least I know the music in Ao no Kiseki is solid. I'd rather have that, instead.

My insane, tin foil hat theory is that Mastiff did it to gauge interest or draw attention to themselves while gaining experience with porting/releasing a game on Steam. They started with a property they already had that had already been translated while secretly working on something fresh for their next release. And the most insane part of my theory is that next up is Zwei or Zwei 2 with the only reasoning being that Gurumin is kinda like Zwei 1.5

So Gurumin is out on Steam. If you did their little promotion earlier for a free copy, you are supposed to go to this siteand log in with your Steam account to get your code. Semi-sketchy and they claim to not retain Steam info, but the code I got worked.

schlagwerk - You're absolutely correct in that typically MSX stuff on eBay is treated as rare gold and marked up very high. So it's nice that Tom was able to find a seller who was willing to see this likely close to his original costs and not for an astronomical amount. Are you also an MSX user by the way? No, I just do a lot of buying and selling of action figures on eBay I've played Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Knightmare, and Maze of Galious but that all has been the extent of my MSX exposure. All of those except MG2 are MSX1 games, to boot.

Wow. So... I got it. I decided to try putting in a $250 offer, and just see what would happen... and the seller accepted it outright. So I just got an MSX2+ for $250 with $11 shipping, which I think is a pretty damned good deal! I put in a fairly lowball best offer on a controller auction and a King Kong 2 auction as well, since both were from the same seller, and I guess because they could be grouped together and save him on shipping, he accepted both offers as well. ...So, here's hoping my buyer's remorse is minimal, I guess! -Tom I came back from a trip to see the original eBay listing post and saw it was purchased already. Glad to hear it was you, Tom, who bought it. The only thing that worried me about the listing is the lack of details. Most items on eBay are stupidly jacked up on the price. Either because of the perception of "rare == expensive" or because of buffering for the 15% you're gonna lose by selling things on eBay w/ PayPal. Then there are sellers who know the real price of an item or just want to recoop what they originally paid for it. Anyhow, hope the thing works as well as advertised because it sounds like you got a great deal on it.

They have missed several dates that they said the game would be available on. Kept their paying customers completely in the dark. Misrepresented the games availability on their store for months. So It basically comes down to lack of communication, poor communication, and seemingly a lack of caring toward their paying customers. Which in my opinion is unprofessional. As a consumer I will exercise my right to vote with my wallet and will no longer be supporting them. Sounds like so many other indie devs and Kickstarter projects (especially Kickstarter video games) that I am not too surprised by all of this.

I'm enjoying the game. Being a huge fan of classic boss fights, this game has some pretty complex ones. A shame the final boss is a cool setup, but weak in execution.
Also something tells me I shouldn't be attempting the 1.5 hour run, destroy all checkpoints, don't fall down a pit, don't buy any upgrades, and don't get any relics achievements all in the same run.
Also props to a game that constantly tempts me to destroy checkpoints and to me who fall for it way too often on my first playthrough

This is looking really cool, but... uh... you might want to focus your attention on other games rather than fan-translating this one. For... reasons. -Tom Welp, this might be a new series for me to dive into if the reasons involve a certain gaseous phase of water.

That's pretty awesome. It's like the only cinematic thing that Ninja Gaiden was missing, an OP with lyrics and everything.
And for some reason, seeing that the Japanese text balloons read traditionally (up to down, left to right) seems so much more elegant. Probably because they don't hog as much space.

I've kinda been hoping that the Zwei games would get a full release by XSEED after they wrapped up their Ys releases, but I wouldn't mind a patch for Zwei II since I bought it in a strategy guide/soundtrack/game bundle deal from Falcom a couple of years ago and have never even opened the game. I'd buy and play the crap outta the games if they got Steam releases, though.
