[/li][li] Touhou 8: Imperishable Night: A lot of people say this is one of the worst in the Touhou series. But it's easy, and its fun, and it got me into Touhou. Hard games. Ys games sometimes feel related to Touhou games. [/li][li] Mega Mari: Another Touhou spinoff, this one is a Mega Man clone that does the series justice. While I can't beat it, I can say I've had way too much fun trying! At least Lightning and Fang are cute.[/quote] I'm not a big fan of Touhou and really dislike a lot of its fanboys, but Imperishable Night was the one I liked (especially the soundtrack). That's one of the worst? sheesh Speaking of Mega Mari, have you ever heard/tried RosenKreuz Stillete? Reuses a few too many ideas from Mega Man IMO (down to the final boss being weak to the most useless weapon) but was fun for a playthrough or two. Soundtrack also contained some catchy songs. oh, and /agree on that last statement ;P

2010 for me was a year of not even half-finished games. So many titles that I picked up and played for a bit (sometimes only an hour) and then moved on to the next thing. Also I'm having problems remember what all I even did play - Phantasy Star Portable 2 - JP and US both. And I'm still playing it!
- Nier's soundtrack - The game was mediocre at best. But I'm still playing the soundtrack to this day!
- Recettear - The key to my shops competitive prices is that I'm good at dungeon crawling!
- DJ Hero 2 - Took me a while to warm up to the soundtrack, but the game improves on DJ Hero 1 in every way
- Ys SEVEN & Oath in Felghana - I had played them both before, but the fact that they came out in the US is something I wouldn't have believed just a few years ago
- Need For Speed - Hot Pursuit - I wanted a classic Need For Speed-style racer and this game was it. ..at least as the controls went. The interface and some of the course designs had me ranting. What's so wrong with starting at a dead stop and laps?!
- Duke Nukem Forever... demo - Another impossibility made reality this year
Worst game I played this year goes to Final Fantasy XIII

I really want to finish Lufia 2, and Mother 3. But my time for gaming is at a premium these days and RPGs are the most time intensive compared to the enjoy to be had by them. The Lufia series was one of the few SNES RPGs I missed out on while growing up.
Though hearing people say things like "Mario RPG was my first RPG" makes me feel old ;A; Maybe I'll make some old PC heads feel old when I say Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy were my first RPGs (though I'd go an decide I didn't like the genre until years later when I'd play FFIV)

drop rolling for jumping and I'd be happy again. Flash guard is pretty broken but at least it takes a little bit of skill to use. Maybe they could tighten it up so 1) you can't still flash guard if your timing is off and you get hit before the flash guard activates 2) there's actual timing to flash guarding multiple hits in a row. Currently you can just spam at any short, regular interval and you're safe

So who's the princess analogue? Lilia? She doesn't strike me as the type. She'll be introduced in Ys eight. (they did all caps so now they'll go all lowercase)

Oh and I borrowed a friend's Rock Band 2 guitar so I could use the auto calibrate feature and figure out the video/audio delays on my 360. Apparently it's a lot worse than I thought (17ms audio, 25ms video). So I fixed my numbers in DJ Hero 2 and suddenly became a lot better at that game! Yay for finally being able to do chirps all the time
Also the Trance Anthem pack that came out recently for DJ Hero 2 is pretty good despite not actually having any real Anthems in it. Bonus for using a Ferry Corsten song as one of the mixes. A couple of my friends recognized everyone in the pack except Corsten. I bought the pack FOR Corsten

I see Crshe and think Crusher/Crusha for some reason. That combined with her weapon of choice made me nickname her Li'l Crusher since when I was playing through SEVEN JP
... though insane props for the Mega Man 2 reference (I hope that's what you were going for)
<3 Mega Man in general but 2 has been a long-standing favorite. I don't have an NES anymore but I still have my Mega Man 2 cart, box, and instructions

Sneaking this in here so it doesn't get lost in the non-argument in the Currently Playing topic. <_<
Was playing Rock Band with a co-worker over lunch and I drummed The Heist (amazing RBN song) on Expert Drums. After I finished it the little notification read "3,354 more points to beat <gamertag redacted>'s high score!" I'm sitting there and thinking.. wait, <gamertag redacted> is me! But wait again, I never played The Heist on Drums since RB3 came out! So on a coworker's gamertag I barely missed beating a high score by a friend who was using my gamertag when we were all playing as a band
Said friend is actually really good at the drums so I took that as a compliment that I almost beat him

I named my character in the JP demo for God Eater "Iconovore"
...which is my completely linguistically uneducated guess using "iconoclast" and "carnivore" as the basis for my best guess attempt
Though I guess the conveys more one who eats religious icons, ideals, and dogma instead of strictly just gods. Beliefs can be yummy, too.. just that they aren't very filling

I play the PC Ys games with a dual shock 2 controller running through a converter, but it is a lot easier to hit the 8 cardinal directions on the PSP. That helps me a lot. You should see how often I miss Galbalan with fireballs on PC.
And I liked Galbalan a bit more in the Deuce's translation as well. He wasn't as.. talkative and it was a little more imposing. On the other hand, he was outright chatty in the SNES version of Ys III
I thought the same thing about the pronunciations. I've always gone with the Japanese phonetic so I pronounce Elena the same way. And I'm okay with most of the voice actors 'cept Margo & Ligaty.. and turns out they're the same person!

Also, how are the Phantasy Star Portable games? Are any of them worth it? I'm the wrong one to ask because I've already spent several hundred hours on PSP2 already. PSPo isn't that great as it's a streamlined PSU, but PSP2 is nearly a ground up rebuild of PSU and is a great action game dungeon crawler. The US/EU version got gimped with removing most of the voice acting, no DLC missions/events, no DLC items paid or free, and overall it was made easier (easier to get some drops and upgrading your weapons makes them more powerful than the Japanese counterparts). If you don't mind playing in Japanese, there's a free demo up on the JP PSN for Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity showing off the first chapters of ep.1 & 2, the new race, a lv.100 cap, and the new Infinity Mission system

Only one I can think of is Japanese Phantasy Star Portable 2. About a month after release there was an extra download that fixed a few things and put a 1.01 version number on the title screen
The patch uses the same folder as DLC missions so I figure the game has to already be written to look and handle extra data

IMO Gyalva on PSP is easier than PC for some reason. I dunno if it's luck, but it seems like it's less often I get stuck in a corner with the entire main platform as spikes. EDIT: oh, no it's probably because I use a different button layout on PSP as well so I can charge magic while attacking. That way when I guess the bouncing tiles correctly, I can unload a nice sword combo into a charged whirlwind. The damage makes a lot of difference than just sword attacks or just a whirlwind.
Rhyanna, your view of Guilern being an endurance fight is pretty much how I look at it too. I usually gauge the entire fight by looking at his life versus mine in a 10:1 ratio. Like if he's down to 1350 and I'm sitting at 150, I'm in the lead. Then I manage the entire fight trying to maintain that life lead

I haven't played, but I have watched, MorningSong play that boss... she hated the talky tutorials and skipped through them pretty quick. I imagine that technique would make the game a loooooot easier in some ways. Yes. But you can still easily beat the game with just dodging.

Olivier in Ys vs SnK is the same VA as Kayama from Sakura Taisen That alone won me over
Normally I can't tell one Japanese voice from another, but I couldn't miss his singsong delivery in this case
